Summary of the Social Credit Party Policy

Effective 19th April, 2005.

 

Taxation and Fiscal Responsibility

·        Implement Provincial financial controls which will eliminate Provincial Government deficits and eventually retire the Provincial debt.

·        Introduce a program to remove consumptive taxation such as the Provincial Sales Tax.

·         Eliminate the B. C. Property Transfer Tax.

 

The Provincial Economy

·        Encourage manufacturing and processing operations to establish and grow in BC.

·        Ensure the small and medium size companies in the forest sector have adequate and secured access to timber.

·        Maintain and improve the opportunity for people to re-enter the work force through training.

·        Authorize a comprehensive, independent review of the Agricultural Land Reserve.

 

Housing Policy          

·        Consolidate all aspects of housing into one single ministry.

·        Introduce a provincial housing policy which deals with affordability.

·        Streamline the Development Processes.

·        Eliminate the ceilings on Home Owner Grants.

·        Entrench the concept of protecting the rights of private property owners.

 

Healthcare Delivery

·        Promote a family-centered approach to healthcare emphasizing: healthier lifestyle development.

·        Establish a Capital Funding Authority for Public Healthcare delivery which could provide for longer fixed term capital planning and financing for construction, renovation and repair facilities.

 

Education

·        Establish Provincial Public & Private Education Standards.

·        The BC Economy's need for a skilled workforce to compete in global markets requires an education curriculum to reflect those needs - ultimately ensuring graduating students quality careers and guaranteed employment.

 

Environmental and Resource Management

·        Demonstrate leadership and promote a practical working relationship with all community and business stakeholders, with respect to the Aquaculture Industry implement: the Precautionary Approach/Principal & use of closed containment

·        Encourage further development in BC of the manufacturing industries necessary to transform extracted natural resources into finished products.
